POSITION OVERVIEW:


You will direct all federal, state, and local tax compliance functions of the corporation and its affiliates. The position is responsible for Accounting for Income and non-income taxes. You'll work in tandem with the Director of Finance and Tax Planning to identify, implement and maintain tax efficiencies.


This job currently includes some shared supervisory responsibilities on property, tangible property, and B&O filings by providing guidance to Accounting staff during the preparation of statements. You'll be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the staff. The role is will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. You'll be responsible for evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, and assisting with hiring, coaching, and training employees.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for Financial statement reporting regarding income and non-income taxes including but not limited to
  • Accounts for Income Taxes under ASC 740 including uncertain tax positions.
  • Accounts for non-income taxes such as franchise taxes under applicable statute.
  • Coordinates with third party firm that supports the Company in these functions.
  • Interfaces with tax personnel at outside independent auditors related to tax matters in the financial statements.
  • Provides monthly & quarterly entries to Controller’s team during the closing process.
  • Works in tandem with the Controller during the acquisition process to identify and account for purchase accounting and other tax sensitive items.
  • Provides Controller and Profitability teams with requested tax financial reporting information as requested including forecasted effective tax rate and other tax information.
  • Maintains and adheres to SOX documentation as well as other accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and follows corporate banking specific tax sharing agreements as required by regulatory authorities.
  • Responsible for the timely filing of all federal, state, and local income & franchise tax returns including but not limited to the following:
  • Identifies and analyzes the of Book/Tax differences (schedule M) within the corporate consolidated group.
  • Coordinates preparation and review of the Federal & State income tax returns including filing and payment of estimated taxes with the proper Authorities.
  • Identifies the state filing responsibilities and coordination with outside tax providers as the Corporation and its subsidiaries grow and expand into more states.
  • Coordinates and reviews internally prepared Real Property, Tangible Property, Business & Occupation Tax (B&O) and other internally prepared non-income tax returns.
  • Interfaces with internal teams on tax related items to identify and utilize tax credits that provide both tax and community support. Identifies and communicates cost/benefit of programs as appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate tax planning initiatives and recommendations to place the company in the most effective tax posture. These recommendations should be made to the appropriate managers and departments, and upon approval, be responsible whenever possible for the implementation and follow through of these recommendations.
  • Coordinates and assists with tax audits and inquiries related to both Federal & state tax issues.
  • Identifies and coordinates, with the CFO and outside audit and inquiry issues that warrant outside counsel’s involvement, either from a time or issue perspective.
  • Provides tax advice and support to corporate groups and locations as requested. This may include tax considerations with certain issues in HR as well as other areas.
  • Identifies process improvements and tax risk/opportunities in all tax functions. Works effectively with the CFO, and Controller to analyze and implement.


PREFERRED PROFILE:


  • Banking is a highly regulated industry and you will be expected to acquire and maintain a proficiency in the Bank's policies and procedures, and adhere to all laws, rules and regulations that are applicable to your conduct and the work you will be performing. You will also be expected to complete all assigned compliance training in a timely manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with Tax Software such as CorpTax or One Source a plus.
  • Professional demeanor in appearance, interpersonal relations, work ethic and attitude.
  • Possess clear, concise, effective written and oral communication skills to effectively express thoughts, ideas and concepts to bank employees and bank customers.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.


LOCATION: Hybrid office in Youngstown, Cleveland, or Columbus, OH OR Wheeling, WV (1 - 2 days a week in office)
