General Manager

Location: Chicago

Work arrangement: Studio-based

The opportunity

We’re partnering with a growing Pilates brand to find a General Manager who loves both leading a team and being part of the experience members come back for. You’ll guide the day-to-day running of a studio, help more people discover its classes, and build a team that takes pride in every visit.

This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to lead from the studio floor. You’ll complete the brand’s instructor training and teach an average of eight classes a week. You’ll also be in the studio during at least 20 class times each week, giving you a close connection to the members, instructors, and rhythms of the business.

What you’ll do

  • Lead daily studio operations and work with senior leadership to put wider business plans, policies, and service standards into practice.
  • Coach and support instructors and studio staff, creating clear schedules and a team culture where people can do their best work.
  • Teach classes and set the standard for an engaging, consistent member experience.
  • Grow studio performance by tracking sales, class utilization, retention, expenses, and payroll, then acting on what the numbers tell you.
  • Plan local marketing and build relationships with nearby wellness businesses, community partners, and potential corporate clients.
  • Respond promptly and thoughtfully to member questions or concerns, and help turn first visits into lasting relationships.
  • Keep the studio ready for every class, including staff coverage, supplies, retail, and beverages.
  • Bring the team together through regular meetings and social events.

What success looks like

Members feel welcomed and want to return. Instructors feel supported and know what’s expected of them. Classes run smoothly, the studio grows, and you know the people and the numbers well enough to see where to focus next.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience leading a team in fitness, wellness, hospitality, or another service-focused setting.
  • The confidence to coach instructors, manage schedules, and take ownership of day-to-day studio performance.
  • A willingness to complete instructor training and teach an average of eight classes each week.
  • Comfort working with sales and operating metrics, including class attendance, retention, expenses, and payroll.
  • An approachable, visible leadership style and a talent for building relationships with members and the local community.

Why this role

You’ll be close to every part of the studio: the people, the classes, and the decisions that help it grow. You’ll have the opportunity to develop as an instructor, build a strong team, and see the impact of your leadership in the member experience each week.
