Position Overview
The Sous Chef plays a critical leadership role in the kitchen, partnering closely with the Head Chef to execute daily operations, maintain exceptional food quality, and develop a high-performing culinary team. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in overseeing all day-to-day kitchen operations
- Lead, mentor, and motivate kitchen staff to drive performance and accountability
- Ensure consistency in food preparation, taste, and presentation standards
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness protocols
- Manage inventory, ordering, and proper food storage procedures
- Monitor food costs, portion control, and waste reduction initiatives
- Collaborate on menu development, recipe execution, and plating presentation
- Assume full kitchen leadership in the absence of the Head Chef
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional kitchen experience, including at least 1 year in a leadership or Sous Chef role
- Culinary degree or relevant certification preferred
- Strong understanding of kitchen systems, food costing, and safety standards
- Proven leadership and team development skills
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a high-volume setting
