Job Overview:

Our Client is seeking an Azure DevOps Engineer for a 6-month contract to bring durable structure and operational excellence to a fast-moving Azure platform. The product is new and under active development by a small, highly productive team. The architecture is sound and the codebase is current; now the focus is on instituting the operational scaffolding—Infrastructure as Code, repeatable deployments, hardening, and clear documentation—to support safe, scalable growth.

This is not a rescue mission. The foundation is strong; your mandate is to impose order and set enduring patterns. You will harden what exists while preparing the platform for its next phase, including a move from Azure App Services toward Kubernetes (AKS). The standards you establish will outlast the engagement, so we’re looking for someone who builds for permanence, partners effectively with developers, and embeds DevOps practices without slowing momentum. This contract has a strong possibility of extension or conversion to full-time for the right person.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Harden existing Azure infrastructure by improving security posture, reliability, secrets management, and access controls
  • Establish Infrastructure as Code as the single source of truth; bring existing resources under version-controlled IaC and make environments reproducible
  • Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for consistent, low-friction deployments
  • Introduce end-to-end observability across the stack, including monitoring, logging, and alerting
  • Prepare the platform to transition from Azure App Services to Kubernetes (AKS), including containerization strategy, cluster design, and a migration path for workloads
  • Document systems, patterns, and standards that the development team can own and maintain independently
  • Collaborate closely with the development team to embed DevOps best practices while preserving delivery velocity

Job Requirements:

  • Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes (required)
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (required)
  • Fluency in Infrastructure as Code (required), using tools such as Terraform or Pulumi; tool-agnostic mindset with IaC as the default workflow
  • Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with .NET environments (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, set standards, and bring structure to a fast-moving environment
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with a track record of clean handoffs to development teams
  • Experience triaging and remediating issues from a vulnerability scanner such as Microsoft Defender for Cloud (preferred)
  • Experience configuring virtual networks and load balancers (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of HTTPS and TLS (preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with NORAS-GGOY container management (preferred)
  • At least 3 years of experience standing up new environments, including setup and ongoing support (preferred).
