VP, Product Management
Our client is creating a new category of energy. We build software that manages distributed energy resources (DERs) in homes and businesses—including smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy and balance the grid. This enables utilities and grid operators to meet demand more efficiently, avoid fossil fuel generation, and accelerate the clean energy transition.
We are seeking a Vice President of Product Management with deep experience in the energy industry and a strong track record working with utilities, energy retailers, and/or grid operators to lead our product strategy and deliver market-leading solutions for grid flexibility and customer engagement.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Define and execute a product strategy that accelerates DER participation and grid flexibility across multiple utility territories, helping shift megawatts at scale.
- Lead and scale a 25+ person global team across Product Management, UX, and Design, elevating product quality, user experience, and delivery speed.
- Collaborate closely with utilities and grid operators to ensure our solutions address market needs, regulatory constraints, and evolving grid requirements.
- Build products for highly regulated B2B2C markets that balance utility compliance, end-user engagement, and grid optimization.
- Provide strategic oversight and roadmap clarity for core offerings in Flexibility Management (VPP, DER orchestration, optimization) and Customer Engagement (personalized energy insights, self-service portals), optimized for the Demand Stack.
- Lead customer-centric innovation using market research, utility program feedback, and grid data analytics.
- Champion design thinking and human-centered design to ensure products are intuitive for utility customers and end users.
- Build and manage department OKRs tied to company objectives, focusing on measurable energy-shifted/saved, customer participation rates, and load forecast accuracy.
- Serve as a market-facing product leader with utilities, regulators, and industry partners, representing the company at executive, board, and public forums.
Requirements
- 10+ years in Product Management, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles in the energy industry—ideally within utilities, grid operators, energy retailers, DER management, or demand flexibility platforms.
- Proven success developing and scaling products used by utilities or within regulated energy markets.
- Deep knowledge of distributed energy resources (DERs), demand response programs, DERMS platforms, flexibility markets, and energy market operations.
- Experience managing product Directors, running large product orgs, working with boards and handling M&A details.
- Ability to translate complex utility and grid requirements into elegant, market-ready SaaS solutions.
- Expertise in Agile and modern product development, with a track record of leading cross-functional product, design, and engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence utility executives, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
- Passion for sustainability, grid modernization, and the role of technology in decarbonization.
Bonus Points
- Experience launching or scaling DERMS, AMI-based solutions, or flexibility trading platforms.
- Familiarity with regulatory policy, wholesale market structures, and utility program design.
- Background in behavioral science or customer engagement within the energy sector.
