The Outsourced Accounting Manager focuses on overseeing client engagements, managing teams of supervisors and staff accountants, and providing strategic financial insights to our clients. The Manager serves as a key leader within the firm, ensuring that client deliverables are completed with excellence while driving process improvements and mentoring team members to support their professional growth.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong leadership, technical accounting expertise, and client advisory skills. This is a critical role that blends high-level oversight with direct client engagement and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Management and Advisory
- Serve as the primary advisor for assigned clients, providing strategic financial insights and recommendations.
- Oversee client engagements, ensuring deliverables such as financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses are accurate, timely, and aligned with client expectations.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, regular check-ins, and addressing any challenges or opportunities.
- Lead client meetings to discuss financial performance, process improvements, and strategic business decisions.
- Identify opportunities for additional services, contributing to the growth of the firm’s client base.
2. Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, senior accountants, and staff accountants.
- Provide ongoing training, guidance, and performance feedback to support team members' professional growth.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set clear goals, and identify development opportunities for team members.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages accountability, ownership, and teamwork.
- Balance team workloads, ensuring efficient allocation of tasks and resources across engagements.
3. Engagement and Workflow Oversight
- Oversee multiple client engagements simultaneously, managing deadlines, deliverables, and team productivity.
- Review and approve work completed by supervisors and staff accountants, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to GAAP and firm standards.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and profitability, ensuring engagements remain on track.
- Leverage workflow tools like Karbon to manage team assignments, prioritize tasks, and track progress.
4. Technical Execution and Process Improvement
- Provide technical oversight and expertise for complex accounting tasks, including accruals, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements across all client deliverables.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with partners and firm leadership to standardize processes and drive operational excellence.
5. Internal Leadership and Firm Growth
- Support the partners with strategic planning and internal firm initiatives.
- Contribute to the firm’s growth by identifying client needs, expanding service offerings, and assisting with business development activities.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for team members, promoting the firm’s values and mission.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (accounting preferred) and 5+ years of pertinent experience
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Experience managing multiple client engagements and leading accounting teams.
- Leadership and talent development experience
- Experience with Xero, QuickBooks Online Accounting Software, Bill.com, and Microsoft Word & Excel
- Experience with small to medium-sized businesses
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
