POSITION SUMMARY

Heritage Werks is seeking a Historian & Curator to join their growing team! In this role, you will be responsible for turning research and archival materials into curated and finalized content for creative heritage activations, which include exhibits, video and audio programming, digital projects, internal communications programs, and more! This role reports to the Managing Director of Creative Services, and works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Creative Services, Brand Historians, and Archivists. 

 

RESPONSBILTIES

  • Curate and adapt archival and heritage content such as stories, images, AV elements, and historical archivist for use in exhibits, videos, publications, websites, and other digital or physical platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, producers, historians, and project teams to select and refine materials that align with project objectives.
  • Craft engaging narratives and experiences for heritage activations – including writing exhibit copy, video scripts, and more — while ensuring that voice and content resonate with audiences and meet standards for archival preservation and historical accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with Brand Historians and Archivists to understand each client’s history and collection in order to recommend tailored content and storytelling and to conduct efficient research to identify relevant materials, resources, and information for projects.
  • Present findings, ideas, and storytelling recommendations to clients and colleagues in a professional and engaging manager including utilizing templates, style guides, and review practices to ensure presentations meet department, division, and brand standards.
  • Ensure assigned projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high standards of quality and execution.
  • Work closely with the Content, Creative and Client Services teams to advise clients on leveraging their history and understanding various heritage activation options to support their needs, often working with high-level corporate communicators and marketers.
  • Work with the Managing Director of Creative Services, and the Associate Director of Creative Services to coordinate resources within the Creative Team and communicate client needs and schedules to inform department scheduling.
  • Stay up to date with trends in the archival, museum, publishing, creative, experiential, and exhibit industries and actively contribute to continuously improve service offerings.


QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Minimum of four (4+) years of experience in public history, museum curation, or related fields such as corporate communications, creative agencies, corporate archives, higher education, or digital humanities.
  • Masters in history or similar research-based field such as MLIS, with strong research skills and a proven track record of successfully working with primary and secondary sources, particularly in 20th- century American history.
  • Experience curating historical content and writing copy across multiple media, particularly exhibits/experiential and museums, but experience in publications/print, interactives, digital/social and/or video is also a plus. 
  • Experienced copywriter with the ability to adapt voice for multiple audiences and media.
  • Ability to communicate visually and work with designers on visual-heavy projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and is comfortable in an email-heavy environment with colleagues in many locations.
  • Ability to lead through influence as well as direct authority.
  • Curiosity, patience, and creative problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and proven ability to shift priorities quickly, as needed.
  • Experience working with major corporate brands, and sports fan general knowledge is a plus!

LOCATION 

  • This is a remote/hybrid position. With one to two days per week in the Duluth, GA office, based on client needs.
  • Travel required to client sites and Heritage Werks locations.
