Category Buyer –Heating & Plumbing (New Role)

Tactical Talent Recruitment is seeking a Category Buyer – Heating & Plumbing to join a well-established company in a newly created role. Reporting to the Head of Heating & Plumbing, this position is perfect for an experienced buyer in the heating and plumbing sector who is eager to make an impact on product selection, supplier relationships, and category growth.


The Role


As Category Buyer – Heating & Plumbing, you will oversee a comprehensive range of heating and plumbing products, ensuring their alignment with market demand and business strategy. Working closely with the Head of Heating & Plumbing, you will drive buying strategies, maintain product availability, and secure favourable commercial terms with suppliers. While you won’t lead the category, your expertise will be key to its growth and success.

This is primarily an office-based role (Monday to Friday) with minimal national travel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Product Sourcing & Selection: Identify and source a wide range of heating and plumbing products that meet market demands and align with business strategy.
  • Supplier Management & Negotiation: Together with the Head of Heating & Plumbing, build strong supplier relationships and negotiate competitive pricing and terms.
  • Stock & Pricing Management: Collaborate with internal teams to maintain optimal stock levels, competitive pricing structures, and product availability.
  • Market & Competitor Analysis: Identify and leverage emerging trends, competitor pricing, and product innovations to drive category growth.
  • Category Support & Development: Support the Head of Heating & Plumbing in the development and growth of the heating & plumbing category.
  • Promotional Planning: Collaborate on promotional campaigns and product launches to support marketing initiatives.
  • Supplier Performance Management: Review supplier performance regularly and explore opportunities for new suppliers and product lines.


Skills & Experience

  • Buying Experience: Proven experience in a buying role within the heating & plumbing sector.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strong commercial acumen with a track record of securing competitive supplier agreements.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the heating & plumbing market in Ireland, including key suppliers, customer trends, and product innovations.
  • Analytical Ability: Competence in analysing sales data, market trends, and supplier performance to support informed decision-making.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to engage effectively with suppliers, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive Mindset: A motivated, results-driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Multitasking: Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail.
