Trade Counter Salesperson – Paint Specialist

Working Days/Hours: Monday to Friday (8.30 am to 5pm with 4pm finish on Fridays) & every second Saturday 8am to 1pm

Our client is a household name in the construction and building materials sector, seeking a customer-focused Trade Counter professional with paint sector experience to join their team. This position combines front-line customer service, product advice, sales support and branch operations, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a varied role with daily interaction across customers, suppliers and colleagues.

The Role

As a Trade Counter Salesperson, you’ll be the first point of contact for customers at a busy branch. This is a customer-facing role that requires strong product knowledge, a helpful manner, and the ability to build lasting relationships with trade and DIY customers alike. You’ll play a key role in ensuring smooth counter operations while maximising sales opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve customers at the trade counter, providing expert advice and product recommendations.
• Process quotations, orders, and returns quickly and accurately.
• Develop strong relationships with trade customers, ensuring repeat business.
• Assist with stock control, merchandising, and maintaining a well-presented trade counter.
• Support with ordering and liaising with suppliers on product availability.
• Proactively identify upselling opportunities to drive branch sales.
• Ensure a safe and tidy working environment in line with health & safety standards.

About You

• Previous experience in a customer-facing retail, merchanting or trade counter environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable using computerised stock and sales systems.
• Commercially minded with a focus on customer service and sales.
• Knowledge of paint products would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
• IT literate – knowledge of EPOS systems and stock management software is an advantage.
