The Client
Our client is one of Ireland's longest-established timber and builders' merchants, with a history going back to the late 1700s. It is part of the second-largest builders merchanting group on the island of Ireland, operating from 25 locations across the Republic and Northern Ireland.
This role is based in the group's specialist plywood and panel products branch in Finglas, which serves both trade and retail customers.
The Role
This is a varied, branch-based role that combines sales and operations. You will serve trade and retail customers at the counter and over the phone and email, follow up enquiries and actively generate sales from new and existing customers.
Alongside the sales side, you will manage the group's procurement through an assigned key supplier: placing orders, tracking stock and deliveries, and keeping the branches informed. You will work closely with the sales, purchasing, accounts and warehouse teams to make sure orders are processed correctly and arrive on time.
Key Responsibilities
Customers & Sales
• Serve retail and trade customers at the trade counter with a professional, efficient service
• Respond to phone and email enquiries and support the office with tele sales
• Identify sales opportunities, follow up on enquiries and generate sales from new and existing customers
• Provide product information, pricing and availability to customers
Purchasing & Supply
• Manage procurement requirements for the group through an assigned key supplier
• Monitor purchasing requirements, stock availability, outstanding orders and expected delivery dates
• Coordinate with suppliers, logistics providers and individual branches so orders are placed and delivered on time
• Keep branches informed of product availability, delivery schedules, delays or other issues affecting their orders
Administration & Accuracy
• Process cash sales, customer orders, payments, invoices and associated documentation accurately
• Process and check supplier invoices, purchase orders and paperwork, resolving discrepancies where needed
• Maintain accurate records and follow company procedures on pricing, credit control, stock, health and safety and order processing
Team & Branch
• Work closely with the sales, purchasing, accounts and warehouse teams
• Assist with general office administration and operational duties
• Give practical support to the warehouse during busy periods or staff absences
The Ideal Candidate
This role will suit someone with a trade counter, sales, purchasing, customer service or operations background who likes variety, is well organised and is confident spotting and developing sales opportunities.
You will likely have:
• Previous experience in a trade counter, sales, purchasing, customer service or operational role
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Commercial awareness and the confidence to identify and develop sales opportunities
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities at once
• A high level of accuracy with orders, invoices and purchasing documentation
• Confidence dealing with suppliers, branch staff, customers and logistics providers
• Good general IT skills and experience of sales, stock or purchasing systems
• Knowledge of timber, panel products or the wider building materials sector (an advantage)
• A flexible, team-focused approach and willingness to support other areas of the business
