The Company

Our client is a well-established and reputable builders’ merchants business serving both trade and retail customers. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking a Plumbing Manager to lead and develop their plumbing department. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role suited to someone with strong plumbing product knowledge and a natural ability to drive sales while supporting a small team. This role could suit someone with strong plumbing sector experience looking to move into a merchant setting or a trade counter salesperson with strong plumbing knowledge looking to progress into a management role.  

The Role

The Plumbing Manager will oversee the full operation of the plumbing department, ensuring strong sales performance, excellent customer experience and effective stock management. You will work closely with senior management to support overall business growth and maintain high standards across the department.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Sales

• Lead and manage the plumbing department to achieve sales and margin targets
• Drive revenue through product expertise, upselling and cross-selling
• Support wider business growth in collaboration with management

Customer Service

• Provide expert advice and product recommendations to both trade and retail customers
• Respond to queries, process sales and deliver strong after-sales support
• Ensure a friendly, solution-focused customer experience

Stock & Merchandising

• Manage stock levels, place orders and liaise with suppliers
• Maintain an organised, well-presented plumbing department
• Ensure effective merchandising and product display standards

Team Support

• Train and support staff on plumbing products and sales techniques
• Build a confident, knowledgeable team focused on excellent service

Industry Awareness

• Keep up to date with new products, trends and plumbing technologies

Skills & Experience Required

• Strong plumbing product knowledge gained in a plumbing, hardware, or merchant environment
• Proven customer service experience – friendly, professiona,l and solutions-driven
• Sales and merchandising experience (trade or retail settingis an advantage)
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience is desirable
• Confident with stock management, ordering, and supplier coordination
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
