Sales Manager – North Leinster, Connacht & Ulster (Merchant Division)

Location: Field-based, with regular presence in Head Office (covering Galway / Dublin upwards, including Northern Ireland)

About the Company

Our client is a well-established supplier to the Irish hardware and construction materials sector, recognised for quality products, long-standing customer relationships, and a strong reputation across the merchant channel.

As the business continues to expand, they are seeking a Sales Manager to lead their Merchant Division across North Leinster, Connacht and Ulster. This is a key commercial role, responsible for managing a team of four Area Sales Managers, driving performance, and strengthening relationships with leading builders’ merchants and buying groups nationwide.


The Role

This is a newly created senior commercial role, established to support the company’s continued growth and expanding footprint within the Irish merchant market. It offers an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives on leading people, shaping strategy, and staying closely connected to customers.


Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and support a team of four Area Sales Managers.
  • Set clear objectives and ensure delivery of revenue, margin, and market share targets.
  • Balance leadership with hands-on engagement - providing guidance, coaching, and occasional joint customer visits to support your team’s success.
  • Focus on strategic meetings with buying groups, key accounts, and the internal senior management team at Head Office.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key merchant partners across the region.
  • Develop practical, data-driven sales strategies that align with company objectives.
  • Collaborate with purchasing, marketing, and logistics to ensure first-class service and sustainable growth.
  • Represent the business at trade events, exhibitions, and merchant group meetings.
  • Drive consistent use of CRM and reporting tools across the team.


Experience & Background

  • Minimum 5 years’ sales experience in the hardware, construction, or building materials sector.
  • Deep understanding of the Irish builders’ merchant channel.
  • Proven track record in key account or territory management with growth results.
  • Previous team leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking ability.
  • Organised, structured, and confident in senior customer settings.
  • CRM and reporting proficiency with a data-driven mindset.

Package

  • Basic Salary: up to €75,000
