The Client

Our client is a well-established builders' merchants with a branch in Monaghan. Plumbing and heating operates as its own department within the wider branch, contributing around a quarter of overall business, and there is real budget and support behind growing it further.

The Role

As Plumbing & Heating Supervisor, you will take day-to-day ownership of the plumbing and heating department, with a small team of two behind you. Trade counter footfall on this side of the business is moderate, giving you room to focus on both service and development rather than just keeping pace with volume.

This is not a caretaker role. There is budget and genuine support behind developing the department further, so it will suit someone who wants to grow it, not just run it as it stands.

You will report to the Branch Manager.

The role includes a Saturday commitment: four hours, every second Saturday, paid as overtime.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Counter & Customer Management

•     Manage day-to-day activity across the plumbing and heating trade counter

•     Provide knowledgeable advice across both plumbing and heating product ranges

•     Ensure consistently high standards of customer service

Team Supervision

•     Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to a plumbing and heating team of two

•     Support staff development and day-to-day performance

•     Act as first point of contact on product queries and escalations

Department Growth & Development

•     Use the budget and support available to grow the department's sales and range

•     Identify opportunities to develop the plumbing and heating offering within the branch

•     Monitor department performance and report to the Branch Manager

Operational

•     Use branch systems for day-to-day records and basic sales reporting

•     Work the Saturday roster (four hours, every second Saturday, paid as overtime)

•     Ensure compliance with branch policies, health and safety, and quality standards

The Ideal Candidate

This role will suit someone from a plumbing and/or heating merchant background who wants a role with genuine scope to grow a department, backed by real budget and support.

You will likely have:

•     Experience in a plumbing and/or heating merchant, trade counter, or related environment

•     Comfort supervising or guiding a small team

•     Reasonable IT literacy — comfortable using everyday systems and reviewing basic sales or performance data

•     An interest in developing and growing a department, not just maintaining it

•     Willingness to work the Saturday roster
