Position Summary:
The Controller will oversee all aspects the day-to-day Accounting and Finance operations and provide strategic financial leadership for our growing logistics brokerage. This role combines tactical accounting responsibilities with high-level financial planning, supporting the company’s goals for profitable growth and operational efficiency.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Accounts Receivable: Own A/R operations which includes customer invoicing, cash application in the TMS, collections follow-up, and credit approvals
- Accounts Payable: Manage full-cycle A/P including carrier payments, dispute resolution, and timely processing of invoices related to
- Payroll Processing: Ensure timely and accurate processing of company payroll biweekly as well as monthly sales commissions
- Accounting: Perform and manage all accounting related duties including Month End Close Process, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Balance Sheet Reconciliations, etc.
- Relationship Building: Partner with the sales and carrier teams to validate billing, track revenue, and control expenses.
- Internal Controls: Develop and implement robust internal controls is essential to prevent fraud, errors, and misstatements. Responsible for establishing and monitoring internal control procedures to safeguard assets and maintain financial integrity.
- Audit and Compliance: Coordinate internal and external audits to ensure compliance with regulatory authorities, tax laws, and financial reporting standards. Acts as a liaison between the company and auditors or regulators.
- Team Management: Lead and mentoring a team of finance professionals is a crucial aspect of the role. The Controller ensures a skilled and motivated workforce, fosters professional development, delegates responsibilities effectively, and builds trust with the sales team.
- Technology and Systems: Staying abreast of technological advancements and implementing efficient financial systems and software as necessary to streamline processes and enhance data accuracy.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborating with executive management, The Controller contributes to the development of overall business strategies and financial objectives.
- Risk Management: Identifying financial risks and developing risk management strategies to mitigate potential threats to the organization's financial stability.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Logistics industry experience preferred
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master's degree or CPA certification is preferred.
- 5+ years experience in progressively responsible finance & accounting roles, with demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic business environment.
- Strategic thinking and a forward-looking approach to financial management.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Proficient in Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP): Quickbooks Preferred
- Proficient in Transportation Management Systems (TMS): Turvo Preferred
