Senior Platform Engineer (DBaaS)
About the job
Our partner is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to help build and operate their Database as a Service (DBaaS) offering, which runs on Kubernetes on top of OpenStack.
This is first and foremost a Kubernetes and cloud platform role.
You will run databases as managed, stateful workloads on Kubernetes, not act as a database specialist. You'll help take the product through hardening, launch, and scale-out, and partner with database experts for deep engine-level tuning.
Minimum qualifications
· Hands-on experience running production Kubernetes at scale.
· Experience with stateful workloads on Kubernetes (operators, StatefulSets, persistent storage, backup/restore).
· Working experience with a relational database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB).
· Strong skills in automation and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Python/Bash).
Preferred qualifications
· OpenStack experience (Nova, Cinder, Neutron), especially running Kubernetes on OpenStack.
· Experience operating a DBaaS or large-scale, multi-tenant database platform.
· Familiarity with Ceph storage, OVN/OVS networking, and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, etc.).
Responsibilities
· Own and operate the Kubernetes platform that powers DBaaS (provisioning, scaling, upgrades, and reliability).
· Run databases as managed stateful workloads with HA, backup/restore, monitoring, and security.
· Integrate DBaaS with the OpenStack infrastructure and cloud control plane (networking, storage, automation).
· Build automation, runbooks, and SRE practices for the platform.
· Serve as a senior escalation point and support early customers through launch.
