VP of Engineering

Metrics Recruitment is seeking a VP Of Engineering for a new online trading and vaulting platform for sports cards and other collectible hard goods, raised $6 million in its Seed funding round. The company is currently developing its platform, a digital marketplace for physical goods based on the Avalanche blockchain. Collectors can use this to convert their physical products into digital "twins." The tokenized assets can then be bought and sold without having to exchange physical items each time.


Responsibilities:

●Define the engineering culture and what it means to be an engineer on the team.

●Establish engineering-wide structure, processes, and systems. Identify opportunities for improvement or new teams that should be created.

●Develop a hiring plan that allows our team to achieve its vision. Prioritize hiring and staffing to attract top engineering talent from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds, helping the company get even stronger as we grow.

●Set engineering-wide goals and help the team to deliver on those metrics. Measure and improve team engagement and productivity.

●Break down barriers for our organization, in particular those that span teams, functions, or departments. Lead engineering-wide initiatives to drive successful outcomes now and over time by ensuring our teams have the context, capabilities, rituals and resources to deliver effectively.

●Collaborate with product management and design leadership to guide the overall technical direction for products and achieve shared goals.

●In the short term mentor, coach, and grow our current developers/engineers, with a focus on developing future leaders. In the medium and long term build out our full engineering organization which may include Director(s) of Engineering.

●Budget and manage costs for engineering.


Requirements:

●10+ years engineering experience

●At least 2+ years of people management experience

●Strong product instincts

●Project management experience with a track record of multi-tasking and coordinating efforts across multiple stakeholders

●Desire to influence and foster relationships with different teams within the company

●Experience managing teams in a globally distributed organization

●Experience recruiting for top engineering talent

●Comfortable with ambiguity and change

●Excellent verbal and written communication skills

●Highly organized with excellent attention to detail

●Interest in crypto and decentralized finance (DeFi)


Preferred:

●At least 5+ years of engineering leadership experience

●Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and grow managers and engineers

●Has experience fostering career development for an engineering organization

●Experience implementing training and development programs.

●Ideally has managed at least 15 engineers overall

●Start-up and/or scaling experience preferred
