Your manager is an excellent coach and has taught this nuanced and complex business to 10+ recent college graduates and early-career professionals over the past five years. The manager explained the company’s “state of the union” in a way that felt like storytelling. Their passion for finance and the industry was evident, describing the current state in a way that makes you feel like you are on the edge of your seat waiting to hear what they were going to share next.
When we asked the hiring manager who is going to love this job, here are a few nuggets that stood out:
- Someone who is naturally curious and always asking “why?” You want to develop a deep understanding of a business and confidently explain fluctuations in actual vs. expected results, evaluate expenses and justify spend, and analyze ratios and the drivers behind trends.
- Someone who can take breadcrumbs of information from cross-functional meetings and interactions to connect the dots and understand the bigger picture.
- Someone who is a sponge and has a deep desire to learn.
- Someone who isn’t afraid to reverse engineer process improvements. One of the key responsibilities in this role includes digging into details, reviewing logs, understanding what was done in the past, and then figuring out how to streamline processes for the future.
- Someone who loves data and leveraging AI, Google, SQL, or other resources to design queries and understand connections between datasets.
- Someone with a high bar for quality - this team produces internal board packets and financial statements for key executives.
- “Confident, not arrogant” is the perfect way to describe the ideal personality for this hire.
What we’ll be looking for in this hire:
- Finance, Accounting, Math, or Business Analytics degrees typically translate well to this department. They are a statistics-heavy team that understands the “why” behind the numbers.
- A GPA you are proud to put on your resume.
- Internship or work experience throughout college - it shows you are able to juggle multiple responsibilities while maintaining strong academic performance.
- At least 2–5 years of professional experience post-graduation where you’ve either been promoted in your current role or taken on additional responsibilities.
