Industrial Hygiene Manager

A leading organization in the aggregate mining and heavy industrial sector is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygiene Manager to lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of occupational health risks across multiple operations. This role is critical to protecting associate health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing a proactive culture of safety and well-being.

Reporting to the Director of Risk Management, the Industrial Hygiene Manager partners closely with Risk Management professionals and Business Unit leadership to manage workplace exposures, medical monitoring programs, and product-related health risks.


Essential Functions


1. Health Risk Mitigation & Monitoring (55%)

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive industrial hygiene programs to identify, evaluate, and control workplace health hazards
  • Conduct or oversee monitoring of silica, Naturally Occurring Asbestos (NOA), noise, and other workplace substances
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, company standards, and applicable regulatory or guidance organizations
  • Oversee hearing conservation programs, including noise exposure assessments and audiometric testing
  • Manage medical surveillance programs, ensuring appropriate tracking and regulatory compliance for at-risk associates
  • Implement and maintain the Hazard Communication (HazCom) Program, including chemical inventories, SDS management, and training


2. Product Liability & Mineralogy Program Management (25%)

  • Maintain and execute key components of the Mineralogy Program
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities related to product health risk
  • Investigate compliance failures and drive accountability and corrective actions
  • Support risk mitigation efforts associated with product liability and mineral characterization


3. Program Management & Reporting (10%)

  • Maintain accurate records of industrial hygiene assessments, medical monitoring data, and compliance activities
  • Prepare reports and risk-based recommendations for leadership regarding trends, exposures, and improvement opportunities
  • Lead or support cross-functional initiatives related to industrial hygiene, risk management, and workplace health


4. Training, Compliance & Subject Matter Expertise (10%)

  • Develop and deliver training on industrial hygiene topics, including:
  • Respiratory protection
  • Hearing conservation
  • Chemical safety
  • Partner with Safety and Environmental teams to integrate industrial hygiene best practices into enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Conduct audits and assessments to ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on industrial hygiene regulatory changes, advising leadership on policy and procedural updates


Minimum Requirements


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline


Certifications

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) required or ability to obtain certification


Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial hygiene or occupational health experience
  • Experience in mining, construction, or heavy industrial environments strongly preferred


Technical Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, and EPA regulations related to industrial hygiene
  • Demonstrated experience conducting health risk assessments, exposure monitoring, and hazard evaluations
  • Proven ability to design and deliver effective training programs for diverse audiences
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in dusty conditions and across the full range of outdoor weather conditions
  • Regular site presence at industrial and mining operations
