New York Market Manager

Part-Time/1099 Contractor to Full-Time

New York City, NY

Our client, Alibi, is a woman-owned, Oregon-born craft cannabis brand bringing its West Coast cannabis identity into the New York adult-use market.

Founded in Portland, Oregon, Alibi has built a reputation for high-quality flower, carefully crafted pre-rolls, bold branding, and a product line designed for modern cannabis consumers. The brand officially launched in New York in 2025 and continues to build its presence through infused pre-rolls, variety packs, and all-in-one vapes.

They are looking for a highly energetic and relationship-driven New York Market Manager to become the face and enthusiastic cheerleader of Alibi’s brand in New York.

Reporting to the CEO, this role is responsible for growing Alibi’s brand footprint through retail relationship-building, budtender and buyer education, in-store pop-ups, customer-facing events, industry relationship-building, prospective account engagement, and close collaboration with the sales team.

This is a hands-on, field-based role with a balance of in-market activity and office-based follow-through.

The position is expected to be approximately 75% field-based, including retail visits, events, pop-ups, and relationship-building, and 25% office-based, including reviewing sales data, managing CRM activity, sending follow-up emails, coordinating events, and supporting market communication.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being out in the market, building relationships, creating brand energy, and helping a growing cannabis brand show up consistently and professionally across retail, events, and industry channels.

MUST be based in New York City and able to travel regularly throughout the market.

MUST have previous experience in cannabis, CPG, alcohol/beverage, field marketing, retail activation, brand ambassador work, sales, account management, or a similar customer-facing role.

MUST be comfortable working independently in a field-based, relationship-driven role.

Previous New York cannabis market experience is strongly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct in-store pop-ups, retail education visits, and customer-facing activations across New York.
  • Schedule and coordinate additional pop-ups with brand ambassadors throughout the state.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives to ensure Alibi products are effectively displayed at retail through merchandising, digital in-store displays, menu placement, and other brand-visibility opportunities.
  • Provide input and ideas to improve retail presentation, customer engagement, and overall brand performance.
  • Represent Alibi at industry events, retail activations, budtender events, networking events, and other relevant cannabis community opportunities.
  • Coordinate with event organizers to help maximize Alibi’s brand presence and return on investment.
  • Identify new opportunities for Alibi to increase visibility, strengthen retail relationships, and expand brand awareness across New York.
  • Develop contacts through industry networking events such as Third Thursday, budtender events, and other cannabis community opportunities.
  • Review sales data to identify opportunities, gaps, and prospective customers.
  • Connect with prospective customers and retail partners to educate them about Alibi’s brand, product offering, and market positioning.
  • Create and publish approved social media posts that support Alibi’s New York market presence.
  • Use HighDay as the CRM to manage accounts, log contacts, and track market activity.
  • Communicate with contacts through approved channels, including social media, newsletters, messaging, and email through HighDay.
  • Maintain organized records of retail visits, activations, buyer conversations, budtender feedback, event activity, and follow-up items.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on market activity, retail feedback, event outcomes, customer insights, and growth opportunities.
  • Operate in full compliance with New York State Office of Cannabis Management regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in cannabis, CPG, alcohol/beverage, retail activation, field marketing, brand management, sales, account management, or community/event marketing.
  • Strong preference for candidates with direct experience in the New York cannabis market.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, sales, communications, management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Strong cannabis product knowledge or the ability to quickly learn cannabis product categories, product positioning, consumer education, and compliant market communication.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly energetic, personable, and confident in customer-facing and retail-facing environments.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to connect with buyers, budtenders, retail teams, sales partners, event organizers, and consumers.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently in a remote and field-based role.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable managing a flexible schedule that includes retail visits, events, pop-ups, and industry networking.
  • Experience with a CRM or account-tracking system is preferred.
  • Comfortable creating approved social media content and supporting brand communication.
  • Must be able to travel regularly throughout New York for retail visits, events, activations, and market development.
