Job Title: Senior Accountant

As the Senior Accountant, you’ll oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy across our diverse property portfolio. You’ll prepare, review, and analyze financial data, support audits, and contribute to strategic decisions with clear, data-driven insights. This is a dynamic role with room to grow — including potential leadership of at least one direct report within two years.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Financial Oversight
- Lead the month-end and year-end close, including adjusting entries and reconciliations
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare journal entries and various monthly account reconciliations
- Monitor and process tenant security deposit transfers and refunds
Construction & Job Cost Accounting
- Manage job cost functions: open/close jobs, report monthly, submit loan draws, capitalize assets
- Work with the Property Manager to review job cost estimates and monthly reports
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare documentation for audits and financial statement compilations
- Analyze budget variances and financial trends, supporting internal decision-making
- Create annual reports: CAM analysis, revenue and NOI comparisons, property valuations
Compliance & Controls
- Oversee and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Submit monthly Delaware Gross Receipts tax calculations
- Manage fixed asset schedules and ensure alignment with trial balance
- Coordinate 1099 reporting (filed by AP Specialist) by January 20th annually
Administrative & Leadership Support
- Provide reports to insurance brokers as scheduled
- Collaborate across departments to support budgeting, forecasting, and operations
- Frequently review and enhance internal processes and procedures
- Serve as a go-to resource for accounting-related questions or concerns
- Review weekly bank balances and report issues to the Controller
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience (real estate industry a plus)
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Proven experience leading or mentoring team members
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of integrity and confidentiality
- Yardi experience is a plus
