The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer with a passion for hydraulics and drainage to lead and expand this growing discipline in our Bloomington, MN office.
In this role, you’ll serve as a trusted technical expert and client partner, shaping transportation and infrastructure projects not only across Minnesota but also throughout the Upper Midwest, including Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Illinois, as well as in Colorado.
You’ll help build and mentor a talented team, laying the foundation for a strong drainage practice and its long-term success.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Serve as a project engineer and technical resource, supporting a variety of transportation projects.
- Lead or assist with client relationships and business development efforts, including marketing pursuits.
- Price, estimate, and scope projects to help secure new work.
- Oversee analyses, computations, and design plans for hydraulic and drainage systems on highways and transportation projects.
- Attend field reviews to evaluate new designs and provide technical recommendations.
- Develop and refine stormwater management solutions, including detention/retention basins, erosion control design, and SWPPPs (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans).
- Partner with MnDOT, counties, watershed districts, environmental agencies, and other stakeholders to deliver effective, compliant design solutions.
- Collaborate across disciplines, contributing to projects that span aviation, water resources, bridges, and more.
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers, helping to shape the future of the drainage team.
- Represent Mead & Hunt in client meetings and presentations with professionalism and technical expertise.
Travel: Some local travel is required. A valid driver’s license is necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
- PE licensure (Professional Engineer).
- 6+ years of relevant experience in hydraulics and drainage design for transportation projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience with progressive responsibility.
- Familiarity with MnDOT hydraulics guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads Drainage, and H&H software such as HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, or HydroCAD.
- Experience with erosion control design, BMPs, and preparation of SWPPPs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to clients and collaborate across disciplines.
