Position: Financial Manager

Company: Wold Architects and Engineers

Location: Downtown St. Paul, MN

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (in-office for first 3 months, then hybrid)

Wold Architects and Engineers, a leading architectural and engineering firm, is seeking a talented Financial Manager to oversee our Operations team. This role will focus on driving operational efficiency, financial oversight, and supporting project cost management in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This position is ideal for a finance professional with experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) sectors who thrives on solving complex challenges and delivering impactful solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of four, providing support, training, and guidance to ensure optimal performance and team development.
  • Foster a collaborative culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellence in project execution.
  • Facilitate team growth through professional development initiatives, equipping team members with the skills to excel.

Business Acumen & Strategy

  • Cultivate a deep understanding of the firm’s business model, strategic objectives, and key performance indicators to drive alignment within the finance team.
  • Stay current on industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory changes that may influence business operations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with departments such as Project Management, Estimating, and Engineering to align on project goals and financial objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong communication channels across the organization to facilitate seamless information flow and informed decision-making.

Operational Efficiency

  • Oversee project cost management, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies, and implementing process improvements.
  • Drive operational efficiencies and raise awareness of financial impacts, ensuring prompt resolution of cost-related issues.
  • Identify and develop solutions for challenges within operational processes, enhancing financial reporting accuracy and effectiveness.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Oversee project budgets to ensure they align with contractual terms, performing monthly forecasting and addressing any cost concerns impacting profitability.
  • Manage project cost accounting, including tracking labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, change orders, and other project costs, to provide comprehensive reporting.
  • Support annual and special audits and enhance management reporting to optimize financial visibility.
  • Supervise receivables processing to maximize project cash flow.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or business operations; MBA preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience in a financial management role within the AEC or professional services industries.
  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems; experience with job costing is a plus. ERP System: Experience with Oracle preferred, transitioning to NetSuite
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a detail-oriented approach to managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced) and experience with ERP accounting applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with team members across diverse levels and backgrounds.
