Overview

Lupton Partners is recruiting for the position of Senior Life Insurance Underwriter on behalf of our client, a well-established, Kansas City-based organization operating nationwide. This role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting life insurance policies, with a focus on full manual underwriting and medical document review. As the company transitions toward increased automation, the ideal candidate will have experience in reviewing medical records and assessing risk for life policies.

This position offers flexibility, with a preference for in-office work but hybrid and remote options available.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwriting Evaluation: Assess life insurance applications by reviewing medical records, financial documents, and other underwriting criteria to determine insurability.
• Manual Underwriting Expertise: Conduct thorough manual underwriting for policies, ranging from $50,000 to $500,000, with the potential for larger cases.
• Medical Record Review: Analyze and interpret medical documentation, lab results, and attending physician statements to assess risk and ensure accurate underwriting decisions.
• Automation & Process Improvement: Support the company’s transition toward automation while maintaining expertise in manual underwriting.
• Risk Assessment: Utilize underwriting guidelines and industry best practices to evaluate risk, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with internal teams, including medical directors, case managers, and agents, to facilitate underwriting decisions and provide clear explanations.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all underwriting decisions align with state and federal regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7-10+ years of life insurance underwriting experience.
• Industry Knowledge: Strong background in manual underwriting with expertise in reviewing medical records.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with underwriting software and automated underwriting systems.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal teams and external partners.
• Flexibility: Ability to work in-office (preferred) or in a hybrid/remote capacity.

Compensation: $110,000 - $125,000, based on experience.
