Compensation Range
$150,000-210,000 + Benefits & Long-Term Incentive
About the Role
Our client is a life insurance underwriter based in the Kansas City area and is preparing for the upcoming retirement of the organizations chief legal officer. We are looking for someone as part of the succession plan to take over in that capacity in the next few years.
The organization operates as a life insurance company, but also has a broker-dealer for product offerings in the whole & universal space. Specific background of candidates with broker-dealer / SEC regulated firms is needed over insurance. This is a great opportunity to join a stable organization with a fairly defined path to senior management. The organization is a subsidiary of a larger organization as well, enhancing security and opportunities for career development.
Basic Duties
- Hand on role in draft, review, and administration of products / product review.
- Perform a variety of tasks related to fixed and fixed indexed annuities, including contract form review, advertising review, illustration drafting and review, and general regulatory compliance.
- Manage aspect of outside counsel, when utilized
- Legal research on complex broker-dealer and insurance industry issues
- Work on a range of regulatory matters including SEC filings, insurance filings and more broad legal issues as pertains to HR, tax, and other corporate law
- General contract review for the organization.
Ideal Background
- JD and active Bar
- 3-5 years in a broker-dealer or other FINRA / SEC regulated entity
- 10+ years over all legal background including in-house counsel
- Prior life insurance exp. Is preferred
