Job Description: Mortgage Underwriter Supervisor

We are looking for an experienced Mortgage Underwriter skilled in both conventional and government loan programs to manage a small team of underwriters. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of mortgage lending guidelines, strong analytical abilities, and the capability to make sound lending decisions while adhering to regulatory standards. This position is required to be on-site. The client offers office amenities such as an onsite gym, gourmet kitchen, paid secure parking and convenient to many dining areas. The mortgage operation has been in action for over 40 years, with the parent company for over 100. Key Responsibilities

Loan Application Review: Examine and analyze mortgage loan applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with underwriting guidelines for both conventional and government loan programs (FHA, VA, USDA).

Financial Assessment: Evaluate borrowers' financial documents, including income, assets, credit history, and employment, to determine creditworthiness and risk.

Property Evaluation: Assess property appraisals and collateral to ensure they meet lending requirements and guidelines.

Financial Metrics Calculation: Calculate debt-to-income ratios and other financial metrics to assess borrowers' ability to repay the loan.

Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to obtain additional information or clarification on loan files.

Decision Issuance: Issue loan approvals or denials based on underwriting findings, providing clear and concise explanations for decisions.

Regulatory Updates: Stay updated on changes in mortgage lending regulations, underwriting guidelines, and industry trends.

Compliance Collaboration: Work with compliance and risk management teams to ensure loan files comply with regulatory standards and company policies.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of X years as a mortgage underwriter, focusing on both conventional and government loan programs.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of mortgage lending regulations, guidelines, and best practices.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in using underwriting software and mortgage industry tools.

Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.

Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.

Work Efficiency: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Certifications: Certification as a Mortgage Underwriter (e.g., NAMU, NAMP) is preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Experience with automated underwriting systems (e.g., DU, LP) is a plus.
