Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager

Location: Kansas City, MO

The Numbers: $75,000 – $100,000 Base Salary (Commensurate with depth of credit "muscle" and portfolio scale)

The Big Picture Our Client is a mission-driven, 75-year-old certified CDFI that serves as the economic heartbeat of Kansas City. In a banking landscape often driven by quarterly quotas, they operate with a focus on high-impact community transformation and long-term asset stability. As they execute a strategic expansion backed by significant federal investment (ECIP), they are looking for a Portfolio Manager who values the stability of a generational institution but possesses the sophisticated analytical "muscle" required to manage a complex, mission-critical portfolio.

The Mission Your goal is to be a Strategic Architect of Risk. As the Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager, you are the operational backbone of credit integrity. You aren't just spreading financials; you are responsible for the ongoing credit administration, monitoring, and proactive risk management of a portfolio totaling $100MM or more. If you are a credit professional who thrives on "solving the puzzle" of C&I and CRE deals and wants a seat where your voice directly impacts the bank's long-term safety and soundness, this is your desk.

The Daily Grind (The Good Kind)

  • Portfolio Guardianship: Lead the ongoing monitoring and risk management of a $100MM+ commercial portfolio, ensuring every file reflects the true risk position of the bank.
  • Credit Analysis: Conduct annual and periodic credit reviews, renewals, and risk rating assessments with a relentless focus on global cash flow and covenant compliance.
  • Proactive Mitigation: Identify deteriorating credit trends early and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies to the Executive team.
  • Lender Partnership: Collaborate directly with Commercial Lenders on loan structuring, modifications, and renewals, balancing "Relationship" with "Risk."
  • Regulatory Alignment: Prepare bulletproof credit memoranda and portfolio reports for internal/external audits and regulatory examinations, maintaining the bank’s "Safe Harbor" status.

Your Toolkit

  • The Battle Scars: 5+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis or portfolio management. You’ve seen enough cycles to know the difference between a temporary dip and a red flag.
  • Scale Experience: Proven history managing $100MM+ commercial loan portfolios. You are comfortable with the volume and complexity that comes with high-stakes lending.
  • Technical Mastery: Strong analytical skills with a deep working knowledge of both C&I and CRE credits. Prior experience with complex or leveraged commercial structures is highly preferred.
  • Regulatory Rigor: A solid grasp of regulatory expectations and credit risk management practices within a community banking environment.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred, but we value your history of maintaining asset quality above all else.

The Payoff

  • Compensation Detail: A competitive base salary of $90K – $130K based on your specific portfolio management experience and credit "muscle."
  • Impact & Stability: Work for a bank where your oversight directly supports the stability of the KC metro and ensures the continued success of community-focused initiatives.
  • Authority: This is a high-impact role where you aren't just following a manual; you are expected to provide objective data that drives the bank’s strategic credit decisions.
