Key Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible but not limited to the following

  • Responsible for leading a APFS business development team from all aspects at ** Japan, and for coordinating closely with other functions in the Japan operation to further develop APFS business in the market.
  • Develop and deepen relationships with key decision makers / C-suite with key local clients as the APFS expert
  • Establish credibility as expert on APFS solutions / recognized as APFS expert in the market
  • Strong relationships to be “first in mind” when client has issues
  • Proactively engage with the various layers of the client, fully leveraging company’s resources (event, seminar, visitors, research etc).
  • Regularly and consistently interact with the key decision makers to understand key KPIs, business strategy, product strategy, pricing metrics and capital issues
  • Develop relationships with other key players in the market e.g. consultants, investment banks, industry bodies
  • Develop effective strategy and focus for APFS Japan business to prospect for new opportunities and new clients, defining the essentials for success
  • Ability to:
  • identify APFS opportunities for clients
  • clearly communicate concepts and solutions to clients and internal network
  • structure APFS solutions that satisfy **’s risk and pricing frameworks
  • manage projects within internal guidelines to meet client deadlines
  • negotiate and close structuring transactions
  • Develop deep understanding of **’s risk appetite and pricing frameworks to facilitate development of executable APFS solutions that contribute to **’s success
  • Strong knowledge of Japan accounting, solvency and insurance and other relevant regulations
  • Key internal relationships:
  • Pricing team
  • Investment Solutions
  • MTS
  • Corporate functions such as Treasury and Valuation
  • ** Japan Branch Chief Pricing Actuary
  • ** Japan Branch MD
  • ** Japan Branch business development team
  • Work closely with the CMO and the traditional side of the operations to leverage marketing support and expand APFS opportunities
  • Establish personal brand and ** APFS brand:
  • present at ** client events
  • make industry presentations
  • write journal article
  • provide best in class customer service to **’s clients
  • Contribute to the continued success of ** and APFS as a recognized provider of financially motivated reinsurance solutions throughout Asia Pacific

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Qualified Actuary (FIAJ, FIA or other equivalent qualifications)
  • More than 10 years’ experience with at least 5+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance and/or reinsurance and/or banking
  • Fluency in English and Japanese
  • Proven experience in managing client relationships
  • Proven experience to win and close transactions
