Position overview

This person will be responsible for supporting product development opportunities in order for ** Japan to develop new products and services to support its clients. In addition to his/her product assignment, this person also has a mandate to act as a business development for specified key client(s) and pursue transaction opportunities with such client(s). The focus for this person will be on longer term growth of the Japan business as well as immediate business opportunities. This person will work closely with the pricing and business development teams and will have client facing responsibilities locally, as well as with fellow product development actuaries in the international offices of **.


Responsibilities

  • Support product development and other activities
  • Build relations with client product development teams to ensure ** understands and can assist with product development and research needs as a consequence of changes in regulations, demographics or distribution methods
  • Liaise with ** International product development and research specialists to learn from changes in international markets and how they can be implemented in the Japanese market
  • Enhance the market perception of **’s expertise by presenting or otherwise sharing the results of relevant research with clients
  • Develop and deepen relationships with key decision makers / C-suite with key specified clients including: establish credibility as expert on Traditional/Financial solutions in the market; strong relationships to be “first in mind” when client has issues; proactively engage with the various layers of the client, fully leveraging company’s resources (event, seminar, visitors, research etc); and regularly and consistently interact with senior the key decision makers clients to understand key KPIs, business strategy, product strategy, pricing metrics and capital issues
  • Develop relationships with other key players in the market e.g. consultants, investment banks, industry bodies
  • Showcase ability to identify Traditional/Financial Solutions opportunities for clients, clearly communicate concepts and solutions to clients and internal network, structure solutions that satisfy **’s risk and pricing frameworks, manage projects within internal guidelines to meet client deadlines, and negotiate and close transactions
  • Establish personal brand and ** Traditional/Financial Solutions brand: present at ** client events, make industry presentations, write journal article, and provide best in class customer service to **’s clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Statistics or similar
  • 8 years’ experience in product development
  • Fellow or Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Japan or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Japanese Life Insurance products and Insurance markets
  • Native Japanese and Business English proficiency
  • Advanced PC and technical skills, including web scraping and statistical programs via CUI (Python, R or SAS), spreadsheets (VBA), SQL and database applications (MS Access, or equivalent technology) is preferred
  • Strong desire to work in an international environment
