Overview
A major Japanese life insurer has committed USD 2bn into a Bermuda-domiciled sidecar sponsored/managed by a leading US retirement-focused platform. Given the scale of the investment, the firm is strengthening its monitoring framework and hiring an actuary-qualified professional to support quarterly oversight, valuation validation, and cross-border coordination with Tokyo HQ and stakeholders in NYC/Bermuda.
In addition to sidecar monitoring, there may be exposure to reinsurance JV initiatives and life insurance M&A due diligence (US/Bermuda-related).

Responsibilities (Tokyo HQ)
Sidecar Monitoring
- Review/analyze sidecar cash flow projections
- Validate fair value / impairment assessment using DCF and Bermuda-based economic capital framework
- Support follow-up of consolidated ESR calculation inputs/results
- Coordinate information gathering via NY office and sponsor-side stakeholders
Strategic Projects
- Support business assessment, valuation (enterprise value), and business plan review for potential M&A opportunities
- Support ongoing reinsurance-related projects (including JV-related workstreams where applicable)
Responsibilities (New York Office)
Sidecar Monitoring (Quarterly Cycle)
- Monitor BSCR status; as needed, review/analyze cash flow projections
- Validate fair value / impairment assessment using DCF and Bermuda-based economic capital framework
- Follow up on creation/receipt of source data required for consolidated ESR calculations (quarterly)
- Liaise with sponsor-side actuarial stakeholders in NYC and Bermuda as needed
- Report quarterly to Tokyo HQ stakeholders (Corporate Planning and Finance/Accounting)
Strategic Projects
- For US- or Bermuda-domiciled targets: conduct business assessment, valuation, business plan review, and on-site due diligence
Other
- Support ongoing reinsurance-related projects (including Bermuda-related workstreams)
Requirements / Preferred Profile
- Actuarial qualification (e.g., FIAJ or equivalent actuarial credentials/experience)
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills (cash flow analysis, valuation concepts, DCF)
- Ability to operate in a cross-border environment (Tokyo–NYC–Bermuda coordination)
- Business-level English (NYC role requires strong day-to-day English communication); Japanese fluency strongly preferred
