Job Description


A leading contributor to ** Re’s Life and Health Asia Pacific strategy to become a top tier reinsurer by being solution oriented, leading in product and underwriting innovation and execution, and disciplined in its ability to underwrite new risks and manage claims.- You will be accountable for the following key deliverables and targets:


- Key deliverable - Product and other innovative solutions: Lead a team of product development experts:

  • Execute a clear strategy to create and sell differentiated, profitable, scalable reinsurance solutions. This includes assessing market gaps and needs, and a road map for product / market / client fit. Collaborating with business heads to develop and close transactions with ** Re’s solutions;
  • Support in seeking of internal approvals and ensuring oversight of risk management for new initiatives. 
  • External partnerships: Identify, develop and manage external partnerships involved with proposed proposition solutions, e.g., healthtech, insurtech. 
  • Market research: Conduct market research and evaluation of both primary market and competitors’ offerings to ensure ** Re is well positioned to deliver new, sustainable and relevant ideas; ensure Business Development team and business heads armed with new ideas and latest information and news around new products and solutions


- Key deliverable - Medical Underwriting: Lead teams of medical underwriters and claims managers. 

  • Medical underwriting as a key contributor in product innovation – provide underwriting expertise to ensure products are sustainable from risk and medical advancement perspectives, while balancing with efficient underwriting rules. 
  • Medical underwriting case assessment – oversee development of strong facultative service offering on all lines of business with competitive and quality decisions made in timely fashion. Oversee underwriting manual development and adapt for the region and products in APAC.


- Key deliverable - Claims Management: Lead a team of claims managers. 

  • Ensure high quality claims assessment in a timely manner. Conduct quality assurance checks (e.g. audits) on our clients to ensure their claims philosophies and practices are acceptable to ** Re as well as offering competitive and practical suggestions for improvement.

- Strategy: Maintain responsibility for coordinating the business management deliverables (e.g. QBRs, Board Reports, other ad hoc projects). 

- Thought leadership - contribute to building the ** Re brand by promoting thought leadership in life and health insurance propositions through active engagement in external conferences and forums, as well as in client meetings.

- Talent & Culture Development: Promote a culture of high performing teams, collaboration, solutions oriented, “can-do” attitude, discipline and focused execution.


Qualifications

The successful candidate will come with a proven track record of leadership in developing and executing on strategies and achieving tangible results.

  • Over 20 years experience in the life and heatlh (re)insurance
  • Actuarial or medical underwriting candidates with high numerate backgrounds who have progressed into marketing, innovation or business development
  • Track record of leadership, preferably in managing teams across multiple functions
  • An strong balance of technical excellence and commercial acumen
  • Experience in life insurance/reinsurance in a business development perspective in Asia where the candidate will have a good level of expertise around products, distribution and underwriting in a number of Asian markets; Good knowledge of direct insurance and the regulatory markets around APAC
  • Strong communicator externally with clients as well as internally with global team; Ability to explain complex technical issues in a simple way
  • Ability to communicate at a business level, both verbally and written, in English and an additional language (used in Asia) is desirable
