Director, Reinsurance and International Markets

Hamilton, Bermuda. In-office. Relocation supported.


The opportunity

A Bermuda based service provider to affiliated and regulated Bermuda domiciled long-term reinsurers is seeking a Director to join its Reinsurance and International Markets team. This is a leading role in evaluating and pricing strategic life, annuity, longevity and mortality reinsurance transactions.


Key responsibilities

  • Manage the technical pricing of annuity, longevity and mortality / protection reinsurance opportunities
  • Conduct actuarial due diligence on prospective transactions - model development, assumption setting, profitability analysis, capital assessment and risk evaluation
  • Lead the reinsurance pricing process end to end with minimal guidance
  • Develop and enhance pricing and financial projection models for flow and block transactions, primarily in Excel
  • Perform sensitivity testing, scenario analysis and product feature testing
  • Conduct rate-setting and pricing reviews for existing flow arrangements and blocks of multi-national business
  • Analyse due diligence materials including actuarial appraisals, information memoranda, experience studies, seriatim data and financial statements
  • Prepare pricing analyses, transaction summaries, proposals and governance approval materials for Management, Committee and Board review
  • Assess and monitor the profitability and performance of in-force transactions
  • Partner with Finance, Investments, Risk Management and Legal


Qualifications and experience

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) - required
  • Minimum 8 years relevant actuarial experience in re/insurance or pension consulting, including at least 3 years focused on pricing life insurance, annuity or reinsurance business
  • Actuarial modelling, transaction pricing, assumption development, profitability analysis, capital assessment and reinsurance transaction due diligence
  • Advanced Excel including complex formula construction and structured workbook design
  • Experience with IFRS 17 and actuarial modelling systems is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to prepare Committee and Board papers
