Position Overview

This role is to contribute to Underwriting Solutions team that focuses on developing innovative underwriting propositions to drive THE FIRM's Japan’s business growth. For that purpose, the person is expected to

(1) actively interact with clients’ underwriting functions and to establish relationships with client Underwriters

(2) collaborate with other functions including Business Development, Pricing, Product Development, Underwriting

(3) provide advice to the business and participate in projects, as required.

Responsibilities

Client team

• Promote strategic underwriting ("UW") initiatives and provide necessary support and advice to client team, applying his/her UW expertise

Solutions/offerings

• Work with Head of UW Solutions/Director to develop competitive and comprehensive UW programs to generate reinsurance opportunities
• Work with Head of UW Solutions/Director to study direct companies’ UW guidelines and identify the gaps, then develop tailored UW programs for priority clients
• Collaborate and co-work with CS team for product development initiatives
• Given AI and technological advancement, come up with UW future solutions for our clients as well as our internal usage.
• Work in Client’s office to proceed projects when required
• Perform other duties as required

Business relationship

• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the key people from all target clients by gaining knowledge of clients’ business and use effective listening skills to understand their needs
• Visit current and prospective clients regularly and conduct effective marketing presentations on THE FIRM's business solutions

Market intelligence

• Gather product and underwriting intelligence from direct companies and distributions
• Participate in UW guideline gap analysis in order to clarify our competitive UW positioning in the market

Experience study

• Collaborate with pricing team, conduct experience analysis of our UW programs, e.g. AP and facultative business, by looking at claim details and correlation with our UW decisions and scores at issue

Collaboration with Regional Support team (RST)

• Communicate and liaise with regional chief underwriter and RST as main contact
• Work with Head of UW Solutions/Director to collaborate and co-work with RST to work on UW regional initiatives

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Life insurance environment
• Knowledge of life insurance product and expertise as an underwriter in reinsurance business
• Basic knowledge of medicine, law, accounting and finance as applied to the evaluation of life reinsurance risks and of life insurance risks
• Prefer prior experience in data-driven or IT focused projects - actively working / participation to understand data driven business solution with other experts in the team is necessary
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Open, honest and a cooperative mindset; ability to effectively participate in, and help foster, a team-based work environment
• Excellent PC skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Good business communication in English (verbal and writing)
• Native level Japanese language skill
