Job Description

The Life & Health Business Development team in Asia Pacific is responsible for sourcing, developing and executing new reinsurance opportunities, managing all aspects of the client relationship and portfolio, contributing to the ongoing review of strategy and execution of the strategy and representing ** Re in the market.


About this job:

This role is responsible for growing the revenue and earnings of ** Re’s life reinsurance business for the Asia-Pacific market with a focus on Hong Kong, whilst effectively managing all aspects of the portfolio you are responsible for to ensure ongoing client satisfaction for value delivery and optimizing profitability for ** Re.


This role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer, Life & Health, Asia Pacific, who is responsible for Business Development and Marketing & Communications for the region. Working closely with the cross-functional Life & Health team in the region and globally, you will be responsible for developing and leading a network of market and client contacts in HK, enhancing these relationships, monitoring and reporting on market developments, and uncovering and prioritizing business opportunities. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing all resources needed to win and retain business, and grow and differentiate ** Re with your clients in Hong Kong.


Roles & responsibilities: 

  • Develop and lead strategies and action plans for your clients in Hong Kong, aligned with the overall Asia-Pacific and Global strategies, also contributing to those, and be accountable for delivering targeted results and profitability in line with the business development and marketing & comms strategies
  • Build and own client relationships across all working levels and functions and take initiatives to deepen client relationships across the functions
  • Look for new opportunities, manage new and in force opportunities and deliver sustainable and commercial proposals including negotiating and finalizing reinsurance treaty terms that meet both client’s and ** Re’s needs
  • Responsible for management of clients’ in force portfolios including exposure and experience monitoring
  • Adhere to ** Re’s risk, governance and reporting framework in growing the Hong Kong business
  • Lead the promotion of ** Re’s expertise in Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific, through targeted marketing efforts, conferences, client events and externally representing and promoting ** Re's capabilities.
  • Proactively participate and contribute to initiatives that drive the growth of ** Re in Hong Kong, APAC and globally
  • Working on other ad-hoc projects as required


Qualifications

About you:

You are a technically strong self-starter with an ability to demonstrate excellent commercial sense and professional leadership. Creativity, curiosity, and ambition to achieve balanced with business pragmatism and judgement are key to success in this role.

You enjoy collaborating with your colleagues as well as working on your own. Your preference is to be part of an international and multicultural environment, handling diverse tasks, yet always ready to support the team and meet the business needs.

Moreover, you have the following background, skills and mindset:

  • Qualified Actuary or highly numerate background, and demonstrated business development experience
  • At least 8 years’ experience in life re/insurance, with a proven track record of developing client relationships insurers
  • In depth knowledge of and experience in the Hong Kong reinsurance and insurance markets, financial solutions and regulatory environment. Additional APAC market experience is an advantage.  
  • A strong balance of technical excellence and commercial sense and judgement
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating, pricing, structuring and recommending reinsurance transactions
  • Strong communicator externally with clients and internally with colleagues and senior stakeholders, in English and Cantonese at a business level (verbal and written) is essential. Mandarin language capabilities will be an advantage.
