The Role
The VP, Client Solutions - Japan, Savings & Retirement is the client facing representative for ** Re’s Savings & Retirements in Japan for new business delivery as well as client relationship management. The role will also be the primary external contact for ** Re’s representative office in Japan including any necessary interaction with regulators and authorities as required.
As the Japan office representative the role holder will also be responsible for conducting activities such as opening a bank account or signing lease agreements etc on behalf of the Japan office in their personal capacity.

The ideal candidate for this role will
(i) have strong local connections and is able to make introductions generally to senior level industry players in Japan
(ii) be able to provide insights on the structuring of potential Opportunities (“Role”).
The ideal profile for the Role is someone who has strong ties and experience in the insurance / reinsurance industry, and who would be able to facilitate items (i) and (ii) above.
The Role will support writing of capital solutions- and global funded solutions-type opportunities for insurance business in Japan (“Opportunities”) but will not involve entering into binding business decisions or discuss Opportunities.
The Role will be limited to the objective of the Japan Representative Office which is to gather information and research on the Japan market.
The incumbent in this role is expected to be a key leader in developing a culture across Savings & Retirement consistent with the ** Re target culture and consistent with the company’s Principles and Behaviours.
Qualifications & Expertise
· At least 10 years’ experience operating in the (re)insurance market including time in market facing roles in Japan.
· Excellent communication skills with fluency in Japanese and highly proficient in English.
· Extensive client/broker network especially at C-suite level with track record of building strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
· Experience in asset intensive business and the associated structuring frameworks is desirable.
· Knowledgeable about the Japanese insurance market and insurance regulatory framework.
· 5+ years experience in a leadership role in sales, new business or client relationship management.
· Financially literate and can understand insurance pricing. financial reporting and capital to a good level of detail.
