The Life & Health Business Development team in Asia Pacific is responsible for sourcing, developing and executing new reinsurance opportunities, managing all aspects of the client relationship and portfolio, contributing to the ongoing review of strategy and execution of the strategy and representing *** Re in the market.

The principal function of this role is to grow the revenue and earnings of *** Re’s life reinsurance business for the Asia-Pacific market with a focus on Korea, whilst effectively managing all aspects of the portfolio you are responsible for.

 This role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer, Life & Health, Asia Pacific, who is responsible for Business Development and Marketing & Communications for the region. Working closely with the cross-functional Life & Health team in the region and globally, you will be responsible for developing a network of market and client contacts, enhancing these relationships, monitoring and reporting on market developments, and uncovering and prioritizing business opportunities. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing all resources needed to win and retain business, and grow and differentiate *** Re with your clients in Korea.

As part of the team, you will: 

• Develop and execute the market strategy and action plans for Korea, and be accountable for delivering targeted results and profitability in line with the business development and marketing & comms strategy
• Build and deepen client relationships, source and manage new reinsurance business opportunities and manage the in-force portfolio by delivering sustainable and marketable proposals, and negotiating and finalizing reinsurance treaty terms that meet both client’s and *** Re’s needs
• Adhere to *** Re’s internal governance and reporting framework in growing the Korea business
• Proactively participate and contribute to initiatives that drive the growth of *** Re in the region

Qualifications

Moreover, you have the following background, skills and mindset:

• Qualified Actuary or highly numerate background, and demonstrated business development experience
• At least 8-10 (10-15 for Senior) years’ experience in life re/insurance, with a proven track record of developing client relationships with Korea insurers
• Strong communicator externally with clients and internally with colleagues and senior stakeholders, in English and Korean at a business level (verbal and written) is essential.
• In depth knowledge of and experience in the Korea life and non-life reinsurance and insurance markets, financial solutions and regulatory environment. Some knowledge of and experience of other Asia markets desirable. 
• A strong balance of technical excellence and commercial sense and judgement
• Experience in negotiating, pricing or structuring and recommending reinsurance transactions

This position is based in *** Re’s Hong Kong office but frequent travel to Korea (and sometimes within Asia) to our clients for client meetings, industry events etc. is necessary.
