We are seeking a technically strong and commercially minded Japan Transaction Expert to support our rich pipeline of Japanese transaction opportunities (primarily flow and block reinsurance). This role works closely with our Japan Country Lead, providing comprehensive support on specific transaction opportunities, with a focus on technical excellence and transaction management. The position requires collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation, requiring close interaction with colleagues in London and Bermuda. It offers a unique opportunity to combine the dynamism and agility of working in a “satellite office” as part of a small team with the backing of a well-established global platform that has a successful track record in the region.
Key Accountabilities
•Support with the origination and development of new reinsurance transaction opportunities in the Japan market:
oHelp identifying and understanding client problem statements around balance sheet optimisation and how reinsurance can help.
oSupport our Japan Coverage Lead in client discussions and negotiations, ensuring a high degree of technical excellence.
oContribute to the production of high-quality presentation materials, effectively articulating our value proposition to clients and other stakeholders – translating materials between English and Japanese as required.
•Co-ownership of live deals throughout the transaction process:
oClosely collaborate with our pricing and investment teams, as well as external advisors, for the technical analysis of transaction opportunities.
oManage transaction timelines, deliverables, and internal resources to ensure successful transaction outcomes.
oCoordinate with internal and external legal advisors on legal transaction documentation.
oCoordinate with key stakeholders to obtain required buy-in and approvals.
•Support the development and execution of ** Life’s long-term strategy for the Japan market.
•Provide market insights and contribute to shaping our approach to growth and value creation in the region.
Key Requirements
•5-15 years of experience in life re/insurance, with experience in pricing, ALM or capital management. Prior experience in reinsurance is advantageous. There is flexibility around the exact scope of the role and the corporate banding. More experienced individuals are encouraged to apply, as the company is open to consider broader responsibilities which may include expanded client-facing opportunities. However, candidates must be willing to work as an individual contributor under the guidance of younger supervisors (at least initially).
•Fluent in written and spoken English and Japanese for effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
•Willingness to work effectively across different time zones to coordinate with global teams based in Bermuda and London, as well as willingness to travel to Japan and Bermuda/London (as required).
•Comfortable working in a small and dynamic team in Singapore, while being part of a global organisation with a broader growth and value-driven culture.
•Driven self-starter, demonstrating a strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity.
