Position Overview

The company is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead and enhance core HR functions across the organization, including employee engagement, benefits administration, compliance, performance management, leadership development, and employee relations.

This leader will serve as a key partner to executive leadership and field/office personnel, ensuring HR programs and policies support organizational goals while fostering a positive, compliant, and high-performing workplace culture. The role requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on execution in a complex, multi-project environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Culture & Employee Engagement
  • Support and strengthen a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture across the organization
  • Lead employee engagement, wellness, and internal communication initiatives to improve retention and morale
  • Manage performance review processes, including goal setting and professional development planning
  • Support onboarding and orientation processes for new hires in partnership with leadership
  • Conduct exit interviews and manage separation processes to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Maintain accurate employee records and organizational charts
  • Benefits Administration
  • Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and related offerings
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits-related employee support
  • Support employees with enrollment, policy education, and benefits updates
  • Monitor benefits utilization and provide insights for cost and plan optimization
  • Policy, Compliance & HR Operations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook documentation
  • Oversee attendance tracking and leave administration (vacation, sick leave, and related programs)
  • Manage employment verification and HR records requests
  • Support project-specific compliance programs (e.g., safety or substance testing requirements where applicable)
  • Support EEO reporting and related compliance requirements
  • Maintain HR documentation systems and internal knowledge platforms
  • Leadership Development & Coaching
  • Partner with leadership to support employee development and succession planning initiatives
  • Coordinate coaching and leadership development programs for managers and high-potential employees
  • Support leaders in strengthening management capabilities and team performance


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required

10+ years of progressive HR experience in a similar operational or project-driven environment

Strong knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and benefits administration

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR information systems

HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, CEBS) preferred but not required


Work Environment & Travel

On-site role based in New York City, NY

Regular interaction with both office and field personnel in a structured operational environment

Hands-on HR leadership role with high visibility across the organization

Travel is expected to be minimal and not a core requirement


Compensation

Base salary range: $175K-$225K

Performance Bonus Opportunity: ~10% annual incentive based on company and individual performance
