Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists the physician in performing a surgical procedure by establishing and maintaining a sterile field in the operating room, setting up equipment, scrubbing in, and handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon. Assists the surgical team by preparing patients for transport out of the operating room and cleaning the operating room.

• Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location.
• Functions appropriately in a crisis/emergency situation
• Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in English.

Qualifications

• Education Required: High School or equivalent preferred
• Experience Required: 
• Recent (within past 2 years) experience in acute hospital operating room preferred.
• Certifications Required: 
• Must possess American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) at the time of hire.
• National certification as a Surgical Technician

Physical Demands

• Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
• Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.
• Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision.
• Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.
• Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating and transferring in and out of bed, chair, or wheelchair.
• You may be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Must use standard precautions due to the threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
• Needs the ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on the telephone.
• It may require the periodic use of a personal computer.
