REPORTS TO: Chief Development Officer (CDO) 

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt 

SCHEDULE: Full-Time (M-F)

SALARY RANGE: $80k-80k annually (plus an opportunity to earn additional performance bonus incentives)

*Minimum 7–10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grants management, or institutional giving


POSITION PROFILE: 

The Senior Director of Grants Management leads the strategy, development, and execution of BGCP’s grants portfolio to achieve annual fundraising goals in support of the organization’s mission and growth. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role oversees the full lifecycle of grant activity — from prospect research and proposal development to stewardship, reporting, and relationship management. 


The Senior Director serves as both a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner, driving a culture of excellence in grants management, fostering relationships across sectors, and ensuring BGCP maintains strong, transparent, and impactful partnerships with foundations, corporations, and community funders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Grant Development & Strategy 

  • Lead research, prospecting, development, and creation of compelling grant proposals and partnership opportunities with foundations, corporations, civic groups, and state/federal entities.
  • Align grant strategies with organizational priorities, annual development- controlled revenue targets, and campaign goals.
  • Develop plans for grants revenue to drive annual revenue and campaign targets as part of the broader advancement strategy, ensuring goals and deliverables are met toward strategy, impact and sustainability.

Relationship Management & Stewardship 

  • Actively and persuasively develop written proposals and reports to effectively convey BGCP’s mission, programs, and impact to current and prospective funders.
  • Establish and sustain strong relationships with funders, community partners, staff, and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with program and finance teams to ensure proposals and budgets are accurate, sustainable, and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Oversee prompt acknowledgements, stewardship activities, and proactive cultivation efforts that deepen funder engagement and retention.
  • Partner with the Marketing & Community Engagement Manager and other members of the Development team to appropriately highlight funders, partnerships, and impact stories through grant reporting.

Grants Administration & Reporting 

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of grants administration, including calendars, deliverables, and internal communication processes.
  • Oversee grant management systems and tools that streamline workflows, improve data accuracy, manage report schedules, and enhance cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Ensure fiscal oversight of grant-related budgets and compliance with funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team on the Grants Master List to align reporting, allocations, reconciliations, and budget tracking.
  • Develop and maintain organizational policies, procedures, and systems that support efficient grants management (in partnership with Finance).
  • Support the Finance team on any deliverables for annual audit, 990 and other financial reporting that requires grants information.

Leadership & Collaboration 

  • Lead on all aspects of project management for developing multiple grant proposals at any given time.
  • Provide regular reporting and performance updates to the Chief Development Officer and broader Development team.
  • Serve as a thought partner within the Development team, contributing writing, research, and strategy support for broader fundraising initiatives.
  • Manage funder recruitment and retention efforts, fostering long-term investment in BGCP’s mission.
  • Champion best practices in grants management and staff training, reinforcing a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Supports organizational campaigns and events on an as-needed basis, fostering collaboration and effective execution across teams.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business management, communications or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grants management, or institutional giving, with a proven record of securing and managing significant funding partnerships.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive, mission-driven narratives.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills; proven ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing budgets, donor databases, and reporting systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or equivalent).
  • Strategic thinker with a collaborative spirit and a passion for equity, social justice and youth development.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS: 

  • Hybrid schedule; regular in-person presence required in office, Board meetings, events, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required for events or stakeholder functions. 
  • Local travel expected throughout the Portland Metro region.
  • Physical/Sensory Demands: Fast-paced working environment. Extensive computer usage and online engagement. Must be willing to build inclusive relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels within the organization and external partners. 
  • Occasional lifting (30 pounds), carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. High volume of work and strict adherence to workload may be stressful.
