THE JOB
The General Manager will lead the overall strategy, leadership, and management of a commercial Door, Frame & Hardware branch operation in Tacoma. This person will be the local face of the organization, responsible for branch performance, team leadership, client satisfaction, operational efficiency, profitability, and continued revenue growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the DFH industry and can quickly earn credibility with project managers, sales teams, warehouse/shipping teams, vendors, contractors, and customers. The branch has been rebuilt significantly and needs an experienced industry leader to continue driving performance, accountability, and culture.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead DFH distribution branch operations, including workload delegation and team performance
- Build a unified culture across distribution and service functions
- Mentor project managers and help resolve project challenges
- Support sales forecasting, change order management, and administrative processes
- Monitor project profitability, margins, revenue retention, and financial performance
- Own revenue and EBITDA targets for the branch
- Maintain contract integrity and help minimize disputes, credits, and avoidable margin loss
- Develop staff through training, coaching, and succession planning
- Foster continuous improvement and operational best practices
- Collaborate with internal departments on strategy, process improvement, and alignment
- Represent the organization with clients, vendors, general contractors, and industry partners
- Build strong communication and trust across internal and external stakeholders
THE QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in the Door, Frame & Hardware industry preferred
- Strong Division 8 experience required
- Division 10, Division 27, or Division 28 exposure helpful
- Prior operations and project management leadership experience
- Previous P&L ownership required
- Proven ability to lead teams, branch operations, and customer-facing functions
- Strong product knowledge across commercial doors, hollow metal frames, hardware, or related openings solutions
- Ability to troubleshoot project, product, vendor, and customer issues
- Experience working with project managers, sales teams, production, warehouse, shipping, contractors, vendors, or design teams
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- High-character leadership style with respect for employees, vendors, and customers
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business software
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurability requirements
- Current Tacoma-area residency or concrete plans to relocate to the Tacoma area required
