Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented Estimator with a background in welding and fabrication to join our team. The Estimator will play a key role in accurately assessing project costs, preparing competitive bids, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in welding and fabrication processes, along with strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·      Cost Estimation: Conduct comprehensive cost analyses for fabrication and machining projects, with a focus on manufacturing-related processes, including material costs, labour, consumables, equipment, and overhead expenses.

·      Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed and competitive bids and proposals based on accurate cost estimates, project specifications, and manufacturing requirements.

·      Material and Resource Procurement: Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to obtain competitive pricing for materials, welding consumables, equipment, and subcontracted services, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project budgets.

·      Production Planning: Work closely with production managers and engineers to develop efficient welding and fabrication schedules, optimize resource utilisation, and ensure project milestones are met.

·      Value Engineering: Partner with design and engineering teams to identify cost-saving opportunities, optimise welding and fabrication processes, and enhance project profitability without compromising quality or safety.

·      Risk Management: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates, particularly related to welding and fabrication, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project cost overruns and delays.

·      Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bid documents, purchase orders, welding procedures, and quality control documentation in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

·      Client Interaction: Engage with clients during project discussions, providing expert advice on welding and fabrication-related matters, addressing technical queries, and offering value-added solutions to meet project objectives.

·      Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in welding and fabrication processes to enhance estimating accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness.

·      Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, welding, and regulatory requirements in all estimating and fabrication activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

·      Proven experience as an estimator in a fabrication and machining environment, with a strong background in welding and fabrication processes.

·      Confidence in welding processes

·      High degree of knowledge of AS 1553 Part 1 - 6

·      Proficiency in reading technical drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and bills of materials.

·      Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform complex cost calculations and analyses.

·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

·      Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in estimating and documentation.

·      Ability to multitask, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

·      Knowledge of relevant welding codes, standards, and regulations.
