Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trade Qualified Machinist to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work with various types of steel to create precision components for mining equipment. This role requires proficiency in operating a range of machinery and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a variety of machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machines.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce precision steel components.
  • Set up and adjust machines to achieve the desired dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machining equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to optimise machining processes and improve product designs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including time, materials used, and any issues encountered.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Trade qualification as a Machinist or Fitter and Turner.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a machining role, preferably within the steel manufacturing or mining industry.
  • Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machining equipment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety protocols.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
