Our client is an established and growing company in the commercial HVAC, mechanical equipment, and building systems industry. They support contractors, engineers, building owners, developers, institutions, and commercial customers with equipment solutions used across a wide range of commercial, institutional, industrial, and construction-related applications.
This Commercial Sales Manager role will be responsible for leading commercial sales activity across Western Canada. This is a key leadership position focused on market development, sales strategy, customer relationships, team leadership, and continued growth within the commercial HVAC equipment market. The ideal candidate should be based in Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver, with the ability to travel throughout Western Canada as required.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in commercial HVAC sales, applied equipment, mechanical systems, engineered building solutions, or related technical equipment sales. This person should be a proven sales leader who can operate at both a strategic and hands-on level. They will be comfortable developing people, building customer relationships, supporting complex opportunities, and helping drive long-term market growth.
This is a strong fit for someone who has already built credibility in the commercial HVAC space and is ready to lead a regional sales function while staying close to customers, projects, and the market.
Compensation: Base salary in the range of $100,000 to $130,000, plus bonus potential, benefits, and long-term career growth. Total compensation will vary based on commercial HVAC experience, leadership background, regional market knowledge, and overall fit for the role.
Responsibilities:
- Lead commercial HVAC sales activity across Western Canada, with a focus on market growth, customer development, and sales performance.
- Manage, support, and develop a team of commercial sales professionals, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and day-to-day sales leadership.
- Act as a player-coach by staying directly involved with key customers, strategic opportunities, major projects, and important market relationships.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, general contractors, developers, building owners, facility teams, institutions, and commercial/industrial customers.
- Support the sale of commercial HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and engineered building solutions for new construction, retrofit, replacement, and project-based opportunities.
- Work closely with internal teams including sales, engineering, applications, operations, branch leadership, product management, customer service, and senior leadership.
- Help develop and execute regional sales strategies that support revenue growth, margin performance, customer retention, and increased market share.
- Identify new business opportunities across Western Canada, including contractor accounts, engineering relationships, owner-direct opportunities, and project-driven sales channels.
- Review market trends, customer needs, competitor activity, project pipelines, and regional business conditions to help guide commercial strategy.
- Support the sales team through complex project discussions, equipment selections, proposals, pricing strategy, negotiations, and customer presentations.
- Drive accountability around sales activity, pipeline management, forecasting, CRM usage, customer follow-up, and opportunity tracking.
- Work with customers and internal technical teams to understand project requirements, specifications, timelines, budgets, equipment needs, and application challenges.
- Represent the company professionally at customer meetings, site visits, trade shows, industry events, manufacturer meetings, and market development activities.
- Help strengthen the company’s commercial presence across Western Canada by building trust, developing people, and supporting a high-performance sales culture.
- Maintain a strong understanding of commercial HVAC products, applied equipment, mechanical systems, energy efficiency trends, building technologies, and industry standards.
Requirements:
- Experience in commercial HVAC sales, applied HVAC equipment, mechanical equipment sales, building systems, sales engineering, technical sales, or a related industry.
- Proven leadership experience in a sales management, regional sales, branch leadership, market leadership, or senior commercial sales role.
- Strong understanding of the commercial HVAC market, including contractors, consulting engineers, project channels, building owners, and commercial/institutional customers.
- Experience selling or supporting commercial HVAC equipment such as rooftop units, air handling equipment, chillers, heat pumps, VRF/ductless systems, ventilation equipment, controls, or related mechanical systems is considered an asset.
- Ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop sales professionals while also remaining hands-on with customers and major opportunities.
- Strong commercial instincts with the ability to balance revenue growth, margin, customer service, project execution, and long-term relationship development.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical and commercial information clearly to customers, internal teams, and senior leadership.
- Comfortable working with drawings, specifications, project information, equipment selections, quotations, and tender/bid processes.
- Strong business development skills with the ability to grow existing accounts and open new customer relationships.
- Experience working with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, general contractors, developers, facility managers, institutions, industrial customers, or building owners.
- Organized and able to manage multiple customers, projects, priorities, people, and regional sales initiatives at the same time.
- Comfortable travelling throughout Western Canada as required.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Experience using CRM systems, project tracking tools, forecasting processes, estimating systems, or technical selection software would be considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC Technology, Business, or a related field is preferred.
