Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Contract Technical Report Writer with a strong environmental consulting background to support environmental compliance projects on an as-needed basis. This is a fully remote opportunity open nationwide, with preference given to candidates located in California.
The ideal candidate has previously worked for a large environmental consulting or engineering firm and possesses hands-on experience in environmental investigations, corrective actions, remediation projects, and technical report preparation. A background as a Geologist, Environmental Scientist, Engineer, or similar technical professional is highly preferred.
This role is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys technical report writing, excels at communicating complex information clearly, and is comfortable working in a flexible, project-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Author, review, and edit environmental technical reports and regulatory deliverables.
- Prepare comprehensive, high-quality documentation related to environmental remediation and compliance projects.
- Support the development of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), Remedial Action Plans (RAPs), and related technical documents.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, geologists, scientists, and technical staff.
- Participate in remote team meetings and project discussions.
- Ensure reports comply with applicable California environmental regulations and agency requirements.
- Maintain clear, timely communication regarding project status, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Incorporate technical feedback and revisions efficiently and professionally.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience working for a reputable environmental consulting, engineering, or remediation firm.
- Strong knowledge of California environmental laws, regulations, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Experience preparing and reviewing environmental technical reports.
- Experience with Corrective Action Plans, Remedial Action Plans, and related environmental remediation documentation.
- Exceptional technical writing, editing, and document review skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce comprehensive, well-organized reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote teams.
- Professional, respectful, and team-oriented attitude with no ego-driven behavior.
Work Schedule
This is a contract, project-based position with fluctuating workload requirements. Hours may vary significantly based on project needs. Examples may include:
- Approximately 20 hours during some weeks
- Full-time engagement for a month or longer during peak project periods
- Periods with little or no work between assignments
