About the Construction Shop Manager Position

The Shop Manager is responsible for overall management of the entire equipment fleet and shop team, including preventative maintenance and repair, logistics management, fabrication, and anything related to keeping our field crews running safely and efficiently.

 

The logistics of supporting various projects throughout Metro Detroit and beyond at any one time is like an ever-changing puzzle that requires planning and constant communication. Developing a thorough understanding of how resources, including both people and equipment, can be deployed is critical to helping our organization continue to be successful. This position is directly responsible for an immensely critical aspect of the business, from maintenance and repair work on trucks, loaders, excavators, and other specialized (and standard) construction equipment.

 

The Shop Manager also manages and mentors employees including Mechanics, Laborers, Truck Drivers and others. In addition to managing the Shop team, the Manager needs to develop strong working relationships with site superintendents, construction crews, subcontractors, vendors, and the Company’s office team.


Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities for the Shop Manager Position

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Materials or Logistics Management, Heavy Equipment Repair or a related field
  • Three or more years’ experience managing or performing repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment, preferably in the heavy civil construction field
  • Positive, “Can Do” attitude
  • Software & general technical proficiency
  • 100% commitment to safety

 

Compensation and Benefits for the Shop Manager 

This is a full-time position with a competitive pay rate, based on skills and experience. The compensation package also includes bonus opportunities, health benefits, and paid time off.
