The Communications Manager Position

The Communications Manager leads the day-to-day management of client accounts and public relations campaigns. Reporting to the Founder & CEO, the Communications Manager serves as a primary point of contact for assigned clients and supervises, mentors, and develops Communications Associates and Senior Communications Associates.

The Communications Manager develops and executes communications plans; writes and edits high-stakes materials such as press releases, op-eds, statements, speeches, and crisis messaging; pitches stories and builds relationships with reporters; and prepares clients for media interviews. The role manages account timelines, deliverables, and budgets, tracks campaign results, and reports progress to clients. The Communications Manager is accountable for the quality and timeliness of account work, client satisfaction, and campaign outcomes.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities

·      A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, business, or a related field is required

·      5-7 years of professional communications experience is required

·      2 years of experience managing client accounts or communications campaigns is required

·      Exceptional writing and editing skills, including under tight deadlines

·      Demonstrated media relations experience and established relationships with Michigan media

·      Experience supporting crisis communications engagements

·      Strong client service skills and sound judgment

·      Ability to manage multiple accounts and competing deadlines

·      Previous experience at a public relations or communications firm preferred

·      Experience in public affairs, issue advocacy, or government relations preferred

Compensation, Benefits and Structure

The Communications Manager position offers a competitive salary based on skills and experience and a well-rounded benefits package, including health insurance and paid time off. This is a full-time, permanent, hybrid position; in-office presence in the downtown Detroit, MI office is required a minimum of three days per week.
