The Role

At ClearScale, the Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is the blueprint of our execution strategy. Inspired by the industry's most impactful engineering models, our FDEs sit squarely at the intersection of complex customer problems and world-changing technology.

In this role, you will experience the autonomy and rapid velocity of a startup, backed by the massive resources, stability, and scale of an AWS Premier Partner. You won't just advise or configure; you will embed with client organizations to build production-grade architectures under real-world constraints. In a world full of flashy "demo-ware," you are the engineer who ensures that advanced cloud infrastructure, massive data pipelines, and Generative AI agents actually deliver tangible, operational outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

• End-to-End Project Ownership: Take total ownership of high-stakes projects from day one. You will rapidly understand a customer’s greatest operational bottlenecks, decompose them into technical workflows, and execute the solution end-to-end.
• Massive-Scale Data & Infrastructure: Navigate and untangle messy, legacy data environments. You will architect and build robust, scalable AWS data infrastructure, real-time data pipelines, and unified data layers to unblock downstream business intelligence.
• Practical AI & Agentic Systems: Design, test, and orchestrate production-grade Generative AI applications and autonomous agents (using AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, etc.) that solve actual enterprise problems rather than living as proof-of-concept experiments.
• Beyond "Configuration": Write clean, scalable, production-ready code. You aren't just adjusting toggles in a UI; you are writing the custom software integrations, hooks, and API bridges required to make the client's ecosystem work seamlessly.
• Field-Driven Productization: Act as a critical feedback loop to ClearScale’s core internal engineering teams. You will identify recurring technical friction points in the field and help translate rough, client-specific workarounds into repeatable delivery primitives.
• Strategic Communication: Discuss systems architecture with front-line developers on Monday, wrangle massive datasets on Wednesday, and articulate long-term technical strategy to C-suite executives on Friday.

Who You Are (Qualifications)

• Technical Depth Beyond "Config": You have a strong foundational background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science. You view infrastructure as code and software architecture as fluid mediums to solve problems.
• Polyglot Developer: Strong, proven proficiency in writing production code in languages like Python, Go, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Java.
• AWS Mastery & IaC: Deep, hands-on fluency with the AWS cloud-native ecosystem (Serverless, ECS/EKS, IAM, Advanced Networking) coupled with professional-grade mastery of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK).
• Anthropic Claude Mastery: Pursuit of Claude Certified Architect Foundation
• Comfort with Ambiguity: You thrive in unstructured environments where requirements are poorly defined or constantly shifting. You possess a "scrappy startup CTO" mindset—willing to confront messy, broken enterprise realities to move the needle.
• Product Judgment: You know how to balance long-term architectural elegance with immediate, tactical execution. You understand what should be built to drive immediate customer ROI.
• Mobility: Ability and desire to travel up to 25% of the time to interface face-to-face with strategic clients when high-stakes deployments require it.
