Welder / Fabricator

Simonstone

Mon-Thurs 10pm-7.30am

£21 per hour

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality welded and fabricated components to agreed specifications, drawings and standards. You will be expected to achieve targeted levels of output while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety and full product traceability.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate manual and semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.

• Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment using MIG/MAG and TIG welding processes.

• Produce welds to the required ASME standards.

• Undertake regular welding competency testing, currently conducted every six months.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, technical specifications and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

• Fabricate and assemble sheet metal and other metal components to drawing and specification.

• Set up and operate fabrication machinery, including press brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters and drill presses.

• Set up and operate machine tools associated with fabrication, including radial drill presses, end mills and edge planers.

• Use hand tools and fettling/grinding equipment to finish and prepare components.

• Bend, straighten and manipulate metal using appropriate methods, including hammering, chipping and grinding.

• Carry out welding and fabrication tasks efficiently and productively while maintaining required quality standards.

• Use a variety of measuring and inspection equipment to ensure components meet specification.

• Complete all relevant quality and production documentation accurately.

• Maintain full product traceability throughout the manufacturing process.

• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment in accordance with company procedures, rules and regulations.

• Follow Lean Manufacturing principles and actively support the 5S methodology.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Essential:

• Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator.

• Strong practical knowledge of welding equipment and processes.

• Proficient in assigned MIG/MAG and TIG welding techniques.

• Experience reading and working from engineering drawings.

• Experience working to defined welding procedures and quality standards.

Desirable:

• Experience operating robotic welding equipment.

• Experience with seam welding.

• Experience using laser equipment.

• Experience working within a structured manufacturing or engineering environment.

• Knowledge or experience of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Time-served Welder/Fabricator or equivalent relevant experience.

• Relevant welding qualifications or certifications would be advantageous.
