Lead Electrical Engineer

Natural Forces Solar | Dartmouth, Nova Scotia | Hybrid

Natural Forces Solar has spent two years building a portfolio of community-scale solar projects across Canada. Now it has to build them. We're looking for the senior electrical engineer who will own that work from concept to construction.

Hawthorne Recruitment is leading this search on behalf of Natural Forces Solar.

The role

You'll join a five-person engineering team as its senior electrical voice: player-coach and Engineer of Record. The Director of Engineering keeps some projects. You own the others, and you work as technical peers.

About half your time is hands-on engineering. The other half is directing and checking the team's work. This is not a people-management role.

What you bring

• A degree in electrical engineering
• 6+ years of electrical design in solar, renewables, power systems, utilities, consulting or industrial work
• A track record of taking early-stage concepts to IFC drawings
• Power system study experience, ideally in ETAP
• Working knowledge of CSA C22.1, C22.3 and IEEE standards
• Experience checking others' engineering and mentoring junior staff

What you’ll own

• Detailed electrical design from concept to IFC: single-line diagrams, protection and control, grounding, specifications and drawings
• Engineer of Record on your share of the portfolio
• Power system studies in ETAP, run yourself or coached through the team
• Technical direction and review for EITs, a newly licensed P.Eng and co-op students
• Equipment selection and technical bid evaluation
• Construction and commissioning support, including RFIs, submittals and utility witness testing

On licensure. P.Eng with Engineers Nova Scotia is preferred, not required. If you already work at this level and are progressing toward Canadian licensure, we want to hear from you. Natural Forces will support your registration.

The Details

Location: Burnside, Dartmouth, NS. Hybrid, with Mondays in the office

Start: November to December 2026, Allowing for notice periods

Site time: Two to three days a month, during construction. Commissioning runs two to three weeks on site.

Travel: Mostly within Nova Scotia, Quebec projects start in 2027

Reports to: Director of Engineering, Five-person engineering team
