Cobol Developer – Employee Benefits | Insurance Industry

Location: Belgium (Hybrid – 2 days/week on-site)

We are currently looking for a seasoned Cobol Developer to join a digital transformation initiative within the Employee Benefits domain of a leading player in the insurance industry.

You will work on the maintenance and development of business-critical applications running on mainframe environments, supporting complex insurance products and internal operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and develop Cobol-based applications in line with business and technical requirements.
• Translate functional requirements into solid technical solutions with attention to integration.
• Prepare and execute unit and system tests; support the business during UAT phases.
• Monitor performance and stability of mainframe systems; propose optimizations.
• Collaborate with analysts, testers, and operations in an Agile environment.
• Provide support during implementation and production rollouts.

Your Profile:

• Solid experience with Cobol, DB2, JCL, and mainframe systems.
• Proven track record in insurance, preferably in Employee Benefits or Life Insurance.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle in a regulated environment.
• Experience with technical analysis (UML is a plus).
• Comfortable working with Jira, Zephyr, and Agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of other programming languages (Java, Mulesoft) is a bonus.
• Fluent in Dutch and English; French is a plus.
